FC Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets to join Inter Miami CF
FC Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets has decided on his new club. Busquets will join United States' Major League Soccer team Inter Miami CF.
Busquets, Barcelona captain, had helped his team clinch the La Liga title last year. Being a crucial member of Xavi Hernandez’s side, Barcelona had offered him a contract extension, however, Busquets declined the offer and announced his plans to leave Barcelona at the end of his contract on June 30th this year. It was rumoured that Saudi Arabia clubs were also interested in him.
In the end, Busquest will join former teammate and Barcelona star at MLS Inter Miami CF. It will surely be a pleasure for football fans to watch the two stars combine together for beautiful performances.
Two big questions remain
The first question is whether Busquets - who is already 34 years old and throughout the years has been criticized for an apparent lack of form - will be decisive at Inter Miami CF of not.
Personally, I disagree with Busquets’ critics; he has consistenly been a high performer in a way only he can: controlling the pace at the midfield with an unparalleled understanding of space and time. Rival Real Madrid’s head coach Vicente del Bosque once said of him, "If you watch the whole game, you won't see Busquets—but watch Busquets, and you will see the whole game”.

Busquets’ performance last year was outstanding too. He was a starting member of Xavi’s 11 and appeared in 30 La Liga games last season. He ended lifting the La Liga trophy for Barcelona, as they won the title with 10 points difference over archrival’s Real Madrid. I am confident Busquets still has a couple of years ahead of him.
The second question which remains is - who will replace an unreplaceable Busquets at Barca. Current teammate Frenkie de Jong had been a likely substitute, however he appeared as the second pivote with Busquets in many matches. It seems that de Jong is no longer a substite to Busquets, rather a complimentary role. Replacing Busquets is probably Xavi’s biggest challenge for this transfer season.
