Luis Enrique to PSG?

Luis Enrique coach of Spain

According to L’Equipe and other journals, Paris St. Germain is close to signing Luis Enrique Martinez, former coach of FC Barcelona and the Spain National Team.

While it has not been officially announced, PSG are thought to let go current coach Christophe Galtier, and have also been said to have ended negotiations with former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann.

But would Luis Enrique be a good signing for PSG, as their goal continues to be to win the Champions League?

Here are some thoughts:

Pros

  • Luis Enrique has experience winning the Champions League with FC Barcelona

  • Luis Enrique has managed big names, including Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez, during his spell at Barca

Cons

  • Luis Enrique won the Champions league in his first season with that brilliant MSN - Messi, Neymar, Suarez. Since then, he was unable to improve his team and everything went downward.

  • Luis Enrique has also been known to clash with his own stars, such as Leo Messi and Neymar in Barcelona, and Totti in Roma. He also famously avoided some big name players, like Sergio Ramos, or Iago Aspas in the Spanish national team. How would he get along with Mbappe and Neymar in PSG?

  • Luis Enrique is extremely stubborn. He is known to maintain his tactical approach even when he is not achieving results.

As such, while Luis Enrique does have clear strengths, there are also risks on the flip side, in particular his ability to get along with Mbappe and Neymar and adapt his approach when challenged in the Champions League.
